Cash fish was good and staff was awesome

Phew. Small quantities and mediocre food. Pulled pork had just a couple lumps of meat. The ribs were well done. And the 4 fries you get isn’t enough for anyone. This was way over priced for what we got as well. Definitely will not be back.

I may have ordered the wrong thing... fries were cold, bbq was old... I ordered pork they brought me beef... the tea was good though and my son's fried bologna sandwich got two thumbs up.

Read the reviews and decided to give it a try. BIG MISTAKE! Waited 1:20 for mediocre Luke warm food! Don’t think twice about driving by this place!

This place is great. It’s like eating at your grandparents house. They are so sweet and friendly and the food is fantastic. We are traveling and decided to bypass the fast food and try this place out. TOTALLY WORTH IT! My only regret is that I didn’t try their homemade pies 🙄 I’m from MS and I didn’t what their BBQ would be like because everyone’s is different but it was perfect. Saucy and a little sweet. Loved the coleslaw too. 🙌🏻🙌🏻

I'm from the area, and nostalgia trumps reality every time, so I recall fondly so many years ago when this was Sweet-Peas BBQ. It seemed perfect back then. Today, there are a lot of people who like Gene's catfish. I am not among that set. The fillets are too thin and the fist too crispy for me; however, the buffalo ribs are good. The fish plates come with crinkle-cut fries that are OK, a pretty good slaw, and a sweet tomato relish that I do not care for.The BBQ is all chopped now--Sweet Pea had a fabulous sliced shoulder sandwich. Gene has a pretty good chopped pork sandwich.My main reason for 5 stars is context. This is the best eatery in Brinkley. The staff is friendly, and there is a good chance that the owner will talk to you.

Great food. Friendly service. Had a late lunch there on the road. Glad we drove a few extra feet off the interstate to have such a good, comfortable meal. One of us had a rib plate and one fried catfish. All done great. Fried pies for dessert. Will stop again for sure next time we have to drive thru.

Canned beans, overcooked chicken and warm coleslaw. Not good at all.

Best food in town. Hands down.

Lovely home-like environment with kind staff members. Interesting to check out the Ivory-Billed Woodpecker and different photos & history sprawled all over the walls. Ordered two cheeseburgers with french fries, coconut creme pie, and lemon creme pie!

Loved the feel of it! The pork plate was tasty but I really loved the coleslaw and beans.

We had to wait 45 minutes for our food. Had to ask to even get it after waiting 45 minutes. Service was horrible. After we got it we didnt eat it because it was so horrible. I DO NOT RECOMMEND YOU EAT HERE IF YOURE IN BRINKLY.

The BBQ was the best I've had in years. I ordered the Ribs and they where amazing. My son ordered the pork plate, and it was delicious. The pies where good as well.

SUNDAY AND EVERY DAY GENE OF OURS HAS FISH RIBS AND STEAKS AS WELL AS ALL THE SIDES,,,,GENES IS GOOD.

Same experience as other reviewer. How can they be out of so many things? My BBQ pulled pork plate was tasty but swimming in sauce. Quality of meat was questionable. Loved the sauce but daaannnngggg there was more sauce than meat.Potato salad tasted like bad grocery store day-after stuff thatgets sold at a discount.My husband had catfish and it was GREAT. Not too moist, thick filets with soft white fish. Breading was nice and crispy but not hard. Service was good.Weeknight well before closing. If I ever stop there again I will order the catfish.

I'm never disappointed with any of the meals. Their portions are huge and very affordable. Friendly owner and staff. I'm a truck driver, and I always stop here every chance I get. They have parking for 2-3 semis.

Best Food We've Ever had on the road!!!! And we are OTR truck drivers= we live on the road!!! Absolutely no downfalls to this restaurant!! Southern Hospitality shines through here! Super friendly server!- took our special order and got it perfect! Great cook!- we got to meet her and tell her how delicious her food was! We enjoyed a conversation with a local!- he talked to us like we were family! A restaurant like this makes it 'feel like home'-only the food is better! 😋 We'll be back whenever we get out this way again!!

Was not good... had to pick up fast food after the meal. was outrageously priced and everything was instant... the potatoes... and even the BBQ beans were literally pork n beans from a can... and appetizers are sold for $1+per item... literally one deep fried pickle spear was a dollar. Literally one jelopeno pepper for 1.39... smh not impressed neither my belly... the meat was not high grade what so ever....The only positive think I could say about it was the sweet tea was good.

Showed up about 30 minutes before close time to get something to go. As we were walking up to the door and employee ran to lock it. Didnt even say anything to us.

Good ole boy country BBQ kitchen. The people are friendly the waitress is so endearing and sweet.We had the beef barbecue sandwich with tots we give it a solid 7.We decided to take fried Apple pies.We give them a confident 8. Even if you don't have enough room for them take him to-go but check them make sure they're not over cooked. One of our fried Apple pies over fried to a crisp. Don't forget to take a look at the old school ATT phone against the wall that still works!

Took hour and forty five minutes to get food and waitresses never refilled drinks. Food was not that good. Local customers sure get waited on better..

Fantastic barbecue! The service was nice and friendly. The order was quick and incredibly delicious. The serving size was huge and I strongly recommend the ribs and the potato salad!

Excellent ribs. Daily special was a lot of food for the price of $6.99. only one waitress who took all orders and manned the register. She did a great job!

After being in the car for our long drive we needed a place to fill our bellies. Picking a local establishment along I-40, we took a chance with Gene. After reading the reviews we weren’t sure what to expect but our expectations were exceeded!! We ordered the BBQ Pork Sandwich, Kids Hamburger, BBQ Beef Plate and added a half chicken as a side. Everything was delicious! Especially the brisket, pork and coleslaw! Super friendly staff and clean facilities! A must try!!

Super friendly waitress and the food was delicious. I had the pork plate with baked beans, baked potato, cole slaw & a roll. Very filling for a great price. Would definitely recommend!

Um...if you can go somewhere else, I would recommend it. My scrambled eggs weren't cooked all the way, there was a piece of plastic in my hashbrowns (probably from a spatula) and they only cooked my pancake on one side. I get that it's diner food, but that's not an excuse for bad food prep.

Great BBQ and even better customer service. Dined at Gene's with a group of buddies after a 75 mile bike ride from Little Rock, AK to Brinkley, AK as part of the #rideforparalysis. Gene and Connie were awesome and took great care of us. Delicious Ribs, potato salad, coleslaw, hush puppies and Banana pudding.

Not the best I have had, but customer service was 5*
